What happens to fat cells during menopause?

We are all born with a certain number of fat cells.  From this point these fat cells either grow or shrink in size with the exception of 3 times in a woman’s life.   Puberty, pregnancy and menopause are the exception to this rule.  During these three windows of time we have the unfortunate tendency to increase the NUMBER of fat cells in our bodies.  These new fat cells join the herd for good and can either shrink or grow like the others BUT now we have MORE fat cells to deal with.

It is so easy for us to indulge in a weekend, week or month of indulgent food and Netflix binges and think to ourselves: “But this is what I want to do right now…I’ll worry about those excess calories later”   As you have just learned, that isn’t actually the reality.
